Someone from church gave me a mess of okra yesterday. I haven’t had it in a while, so I’m excited to cook some up tonight. Here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we fry okra. I heard of someone boiling it – and couldn’t even imagine how slimy that must be 🙂
Growing up in the mountains, I heard several people refer to okra as okree. Have you?
So tonight, I’m going to follow this recipe for cooking okra. It’s what I remember my Granny doing.
1. Slice the okra
2. Dip it in buttermilk
3. Roll okra in cornmeal
